“Re-generation!”

by

The reactivation of our beloved Alpha Beta is going well.  We surely will be back where we belong at 1829 University SE in September 2017. It is almost a “re-generation,” as by then it will have been over 15 years since we had Zetes living in our own house.

There are now 25 excellent men in a group that is striving to reach 30 by April 1. Eleven of these men will travel to the Michigan Chapter for the Midwestern LTI April 2-4. When they return, we’ll have a pledge ceremony and schedule initiation for May. Convention is conveniently in Chicago this year, and both actives and elders will show up in force.

The actives are hosting a BBQ for the elders on the afternoon of April 16, and the Alpha Beta Educational Fund (our own scholarship fund) has their annual wine-tasting fundraiser that night. Let’s make a day of it!

A good way to keep current with these and future goings-on is to join our Facebook group. It’s far more active than this webpage.

Are you enthused? How could you not be? If you’d like to stay closer to the action, the ABES board could use 2 more members. And the Educational Fund could use some event help, too. Just post to the Facebook page or send a message to info@abelders.org.

Initiative to re-activate our Alpha Beta chapter here in Minnesota (update)

by

Last Fall we provided a Special Issue of the The UpZete announcing our new initiative to re-activate our Alpha Beta chapter here in Minnesota. This report will provide a mid-Winter update.

As you may recall, Zeta Psi International retained a specialized recruiting firm to represent our efforts on campus. The plan, budgeted and approved by the Zeta Psi International Board targeted the Fall of 2015 for the formal on campus launch, preceded by a social media campaign (Facebook, Twitter, etc.) in the Spring. The Fall target date allowed for important preliminary work to be done with the University.

The recruiting firm, now re-branded as Launch Point Solutions, http://launchpointsolutions.org/about/ , engaged campus administration and the Intra Fraternity Council over the Winter. Those conversations enlisted their support and cooperation for the recruitment effort. The university has indicated a willingness to share recruitment lists, including other campus organizations and incoming students. The IFC was initially concerned that Zeta Psi’s return would harm the Sigma Pi chapter, the current tenant of the Alpha Beta chapter house.

After receiving assurances that the transition back to Zeta Psi residents would be orderly and include a sufficient timeline for Sigma Pi to relocate, the IFC leadership signaled their support.

Meanwhile Tim Kennedy has continued to communicate with several members of the Eagle Scout group on campus. That group will also be targeted for recruitment discussions, either later this Spring, or as part of the Fall launch.

Tyler Boisvert, the Zeta Psi International Director of Operations is planning a campus visit in the Spring to establish personal contact with administration and the IFC.

In summary, the preliminary steps in the recruitment plan are on track, the university is supportive of our return, and everyone involved is looking forward to the actual on-campus campaign in the Fall.

Homecoming – 2010

by

The elder association board has booked the Regents Room at the University Radisson right on Washington Ave, 1 block from the stadium. The room is being reserved from 7:00am to noon and will have a cash bar starting at 8:00am, with coffee, juice, and rolls, bagels and muffins. In the hotel, there is also a cafe that will have a breakfast buffet so for those who want a full breakfast (we’ve been told) we will be allowed to bring food from the buffet to our room and lounge area. Hope to see lots of old friends and meet some new ones!

Postcard invitations will also be going out to our filtered and updated mailing list of just under 700 alumni.

Because there are costs associated with this event, we are asking those people who come who have not contributed their $25 this year to chip in $10 for the event or it’s not too late to make that $25 donation.

In the past, we have congregated at the house before homecoming games but due to changes in the University and Fraternity Council’s rules, they are disallowing people from congregating on lawns on fraternity row before football games.

I do want to take this opportunity to thank those people who have paid their dues to the elder association this year.

Special thanks for contributing more than we asked:

Frank Kumosz
Father Bob O’Donnell
Ron Lischeid
Nathan Kegel

Thanks for helping make these events happen:

Chad West
Mike Gualtieri
Tim Kennedy
Ryan Johnson
Brookdale Health Center
Will Tarbox
Eric Siverling
Sean Ryan
Alan Rice
Rob Roland
John Hilleren

(Apologies if we missed anyone)
